Fogged Up Goggles

How the stories we tell ourselves shape the way we communicate, collaborate, and connect.

We don’t experience the world exactly as it is.
We experience it through the lenses of our past experiences, beliefs, assumptions, expectations, emotions, fears, and hopes. Those lenses can help us make sense of life—but they can also fog our view of ourselves and the people around us.
Fogged Up Goggles is an exploration of those invisible lenses: how they shape what we notice, what we believe something means, and how we respond.

Isn’t Reality…Reality?

Not exactly.

Two people can witness the same conversation, walk away with completely different interpretations, and both feel certain that their version is true.

One person hears criticism.
Another hears concern.

One person sees rejection.
Another sees a boundary.

One person assumes silence means anger.
Another is simply tired, distracted, or unsure what to say.

The facts may be the same, but the meaning each person gives those facts can be very different.

That meaning becomes part of the story we tell ourselves—and that story influences what happens next.

What Are Fogged Up Goggles?

Fogged Up Goggles are the stories, assumptions, emotions, expectations, and past experiences that influence how we interpret the present.

We all wear them.

The goal is not to become completely objective or emotionless. The goal is to notice when our lenses may be affecting what we see, become curious about what we might be missing, and respond more intentionally.

When we learn to recognize our own Fogged Up Goggles, we can begin to:

  • Separate facts from interpretations
  • Recognize the stories we are telling ourselves
  • Name and communicate our feelings more accurately
  • Ask better questions before making assumptions
  • Respond instead of automatically reacting
  • Navigate rejection, conflict, and misunderstanding more effectively
  • Build healthier relationships at home and at work
  • Create more clarity, connection, and peace

REGOGNIZE

Why I Created Fogged Up Goggles

Fogged Up Goggles grew from years of profound experiences, generous mentors, painful lessons, unexpected humor, and perspective shifts that changed how I understood myself and other people.

I began to recognize how often our relationships are shaped not only by what happened, but by what we believe happened—and what we believe it says about us or someone else.

I am continuing to research these ideas through books, classes, expert interviews, established psychological and personal-growth models, and real-life practice. I am documenting what I learn, testing practical tools, and sharing the journey honestly.

I am not presenting myself as a therapist with all the answers. I am a curious student, teacher, and fellow human trying to learn how we can understand ourselves and one another more clearly.
I invite you to explore alongside me.

Your Story Could Help Someone See Differently

Seeking inspiring stories of perspective and change

Have you ever experienced a perspective shift that changed your life?

Perhaps you met someone who challenged a long-held belief. Maybe an unexpected experience, painful rejection, difficult relationship, profound loss, generous mentor, or second chance caused you to see yourself, another person, or the world differently.

What did you believe before?
What changed your perspective?
What did you see differently afterward?
How did that new perspective affect your choices, relationships, or life?

I am collecting stories for consideration as I develop Fogged Up Goggles and its related educational content. Selected stories may help others recognize their own assumptions, question an old narrative, or discover a clearer way forward.

Submitting your information does not guarantee publication or participation. I will contact you before using or sharing your story, and we will discuss permission, attribution, privacy, and next steps.
